Aletha L. Wallace was born in Lower Grand Buchannan, Liberia on July 11, 1936 to James H. Brown and Clara A. Brown. She was the youngest of three children, with siblings Dixon and Rebecca.

She received her elementary education at St. Claver Catholic School in Grand Bassa County, Liberia. The family moved to Monrovia, Liberia where she began high school at the College of West Africa (CWA), but she completed her studies in New York, U.S.A. when she moved with her uncle, Kendrick Brown, and his family. Upon her high school completion, she enrolled at North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State University (N.C. A&T) in Greensboro, N.C. It was there that she met her spouse, Everett Wallace Jr., who was an engineering student; they married on, May 30, 1960 and had three children, Valdora, Voga (deceased) and Vongi. She put her college career on hold to raise her children and support her husband with his career. Later on, she returned to college and completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, in addition to earning a Master’s Degree in Management.

She came from a strong Christian background, which continued throughout her life. Her family became members of Grace Episcopal Church, and after moving to South Carolina in 1999, she and Everett became members of Mt. Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Pamplico, SC.

Some of Aletha’s favorite things were the outdoors, shopping, antiques, and old real estate. In 2003, she fulfilled her dream of buying a 100-year old house, renovating it and opening a Bed & Breakfast in Latta, SC.

She leaves behind fun and loving memories to her devoted spouse, Everett Wallace Jr., two daughters, Valdora Evans of Atlanta, GA and Vongi Ellison (Marcus) of Beltsville, MD. A step-daughter, Jewell Lewis (Otis) of Charlotte, N.C., a sister, Louise Ward of New Jersey, an aunt, Estelle Hammond of New Jersey, and two sisters-in-law, Eloise Hicks and Frances Diggs of Charlotte, N.C.

Her legacy also lives through her four nieces, Agnes Pierre (James), Agnes Brown, Joyce Jones, Violet Jones and three nephews, Armo Komo, James E. Brown, and Dixon Brown and their families. She was also blessed to have fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of beloved family and friends
