It has been many years since I retired from Harry Diamond Labs. I have thought about Bill many times and yesterday I wanted to say hello. I am in shock. It saddens me to learn about his passing. We used to chat in his office and we shared many stories and ideas. We could talk about everything under the sun. He was so cheerful. So sorry that I did not act sooner.

I am sadden to just learn Bill has left us. I knew Bill for several years a Harry Diamond labs. He was my stress councilor and we shared many afternoons discussing life and our past with a wide variety of stories and a load of belly laughs sometimes to tears on both parts. I was a young man that was not accustom to the ways of life in the world of secret work for one of the top research labs in the world. Bill allowed me to open up to him in a way I never have before. He helped me see my life in a way that allowed me to forgive myself for all the things I had lived through being a child taken away from home at age 8 because of the abuse I was living in with beatings daily. I was raised in a military school and foster homes during times our school was closed. Bill let me navigate through those years in the safety of his intellect, kindness and a deep caring for his fellow human being . Bill was my champion, he guided me towards a direction of strength that has allowed me to survive four hip replacements and a early retirement with my wife of 20yrs. I am a very happy man getting ready to turn 60yrs old living in a resort down in Charleston, SC. I owe so much of my happiness because of Bill's teachings and his big laugh, we enjoyed Toastmasters together and I always looked forward to his turn at the podium :)

Dear Margie,

You're in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. We "knew" Bill from the stories you would relate to me at work; from the obituary, I could tell he was a kind-hearted gentleman.

With our sympathy,

The Fechhelm Family

Dear Margie,

I am deeply saddened by the loss of my good friend Bill. I will forever cherish our time together and remember him for his decency, humor, willingness to offer a helping hand, and old school charm – characteristics that won the hearts of so many. Although Bill will not be around to share his comradeship, he will live on in spirit and memory. Thinking of him will be a reminder of the many benefits I received from our friendship. My spouse Elane and I offer our sincere sympathy and warmest condolences.

Dale and Elane,
Thank you so much. I agree with your thoughts. Bill so loved to go to the range and to spend time with Dale. He was always hoping we would get to Texas to visit you and see your beloved Crystal Lake. I like to think that his spirit may take a vacation there sometime to enjoy the birds and the beautiful views. With love, Margie

Margie, we were so sorry to hear about Bill. It made me happy that we spent that Sunday afternoon with you and Bill for a few hours in Alexandria. He will always be in my mind sitting at his school desk in high school, tapping his fingers with his flattop with not a hair out of place. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy. We will be turning our thoughts to memories of him.

Respectfully,

Bob and Marilyn Tallman (South Sioux City High School classmate)

Marilyn and Bob,
Thank you very much. We had a lovely time that afternoon in Virginia. It was so much fun to meet someone who knew Bill when he was in high school. I think he also enjoyed seeing your photos and catching up. I'm sorry that we didn't have more opportunities to meet again. With love, Margie
