Charles “Buddy”, “Charlie” Leroy Neidecker (1928-2020) passed away on December 6, 2020, of natural causes. He is survived by his daughter Nancy Floyd, son Wayne Neidecker, grandchildren Brian, Amy, Brett, Carly, Cody and great-granddaughter Lily. Charles’ wife, Dorothy died in 2009, after 59 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his son Gary.
Charles was born in Washington D.C. on March 28, 1928. His parents were Ruth and Charles. He is survived by his younger brother, Bob. He graduated from McKinley Technology High School, in 1946, where he studied Print Shop and played Baseball. He went on to join the United States Marine Corp, where he served honorably until 1952. He worked as a Printer most of his life. He started at Premier Press in Washington D.C., as a teenager and continued there for many years. Charlie also worked as a printer for the Federal Bureau of Engraving. While working for the Federal Bureau of Engraving, Charlie also opened and operated his own print shop, which he continued to do after his retirement.
Charlie married Dorothy Boss on November 11, 1950. They had three children: Nancy, Gary, and Wayne. Charlie and Dorothy were both very active in their Church and taught Sunday School. Charlie served as a Deacon and he was also on several committees. He was an active member at Luther Rice Baptist Church in Washington D.C. and after moving to Maryland, University Baptist Church in College Park. He was instrumental in starting the current Church at Riderwood Village Retirement Community when he and Dorothy moved there. Charlie volunteered at and contributed to many non-profit organizations.
In his free time, Buddy loved watching and umpiring Little League, Baseball and Softball. He was an Umpire for 50 years and was inducted into the Washington Metropolitan Slow Pitch Soft Ball Hall of Fame in October of 1982 and elected to Life Member of the Greater Washington Softball Umpires Association for Outstanding Service in 1985. Charlie also love participating in Duckpin Bowling. Charlie loved working at the University of Maryland, as an Usher for both Basketball and Football games for many years. Charlie loved to organize trips, he did this for many years for friends and acquaintances and coined it “Travel with Charlie”.
Charlie will be remembered as a compassionate and faithful man. He always had a smile, joke, or story to tell. He loved his family and friends and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
