Diane Marie Jackson

October 13, 1950 — June 24, 2020

Beltsville

Diane Marie Jackson transitioned to be with her lord and savior on June 24, 2020. She was born on October 13, 1950 in Washington to the late Willie B. Smith and Ruvella Goldie Jackson. She was educated by the District of Columbia Public Schools and attended Ballou High School. She was fortunate enough to find her career later in life with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board which she retired from after 35 years as a lead License Examiner in 2016. She was a devoted mother and caretaker true and honest. As a young woman, Diane not only shouldered the responsibility of raising her own three children, she became instrumental in the upbringing of her seven (7) siblings when tragedy struck her family and left her mother totally blind. She persevered through all that while instilling strong values and beliefs in the family. She was strong and lead with a firm hand, but somehow still managed that gentle touch. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost and embraced every moment of it. She especially loved her role as grandma. She had a warm personality and always made everyone feel at home in her presence.

Diane loved to travel and at any given moment she and her big sister, Laura (her road dog) would jump on a plane, train and sometimes automobile and off on a new adventure they would go. Cooking was another one of her passions, during the holidays, Christmas or Thanksgiving, she would stay up for days preparing for the feast ahead. Her macaroni and cheese dinner rolls were infamous. She loved reading all kinds of books and singing was second nature to her. Puzzling was also something she loved doing with her baby sister Janice while she was wreaking havoc on her nerves.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Laura Keene, and brothers Nathan and Nathaniel Jackson. She leaves to carry on her legacy three children: Ruvella Harrison (daughter-in-law Alisha), Lisa Jackson, and Arthur Jackson (daughter-in-law Lakeisha); nine grandchildren: Chardell, Janelle, Lawrence, Daeronta, Carlos, Katelyn, Imena, Arthur, and Azariah; five sisters: Joyce Washington, brother-in-law Douglass Keene, Diane Boozer, Regina Jackson, Wennett Harrison, Janice Harrison, and two brothers Joseph Harrison, and Willie Smith; four great-grandchildren: Deloriona, Olivia, Amir, Amarri,  nieces and a nephew with a host of other loving family and friends.
