Eva Mae Black, 90 years young, of Laurel, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026. She was born on October 19, 1935, in Bowie, Maryland, to Henry and Eva Mae Edelen. Before returning to be with the Lord, Eva Mae was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished sister, beloved aunt, and loyal friend. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Arthur "Artie" Black; her sons Craig (Susan) and Kevin; and many extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Kenneth "Buzzy" Edelen. A proud 1953 graduate of Laurel High School, Eva Mae met Artie at a friend's wedding, and the two married just four months later. Together, they built a beautiful life and family.
Eva Mae began her career at Southern Maryland Oxygen and Copar Panzer Tractor before joining her husband in founding their family plumbing business in 1964. She managed the office for many years while lovingly raising their two boys.
Deeply committed to her faith and community, Eva Mae was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Laurel, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a life member of the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary and dedicated countless hours of service to organizations such as Meals on Wheels, the Suicide Hotline, and Treat the Troops.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org) in Eva Mae's memory.
