Fabio Antonio Cruz, age 75, of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026, surrounded by family after a courageous journey with dementia.
Born on May 11, 1951 to Juan Enrique Cruz Guillen and Alicia Antonia Morel. Fabio grew up in the Dominican Republic, a place that remained an important part of who he was throughout life. In 1986, Fabio moved to the United States, where he built a life filled with hard work, family, laughter and love. Throughout his career, Fabio worked at both American University and the World Bank, but some of the most meaningful parts of his life could never be measured by a job title. Fabio was a loving husband and devoted family man, who found his greatest joy in the people he loved. He had a passion for music and dancing, loved to cook, and could always be counted on to enjoy a good baseball game.
Fabio is survived by his loving wife, Berta Coralia Alfaro, and children Evan, Noel, Abel, and Elvis. He is also survived by his siblings on his mother’s side, Elvira Dolores, Luz Milagro, Rafaela Feyita, Rosa Salutina and siblings from his father’s side, Maria Yolanda, Carmen Carolina, Juan George, Miguel, Yimmy (Yiyo), Juana Mercedes, Juan Gilberto, Juan Enrique (Kike) and Juan Enrique Cruz. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and who will carry his memory with them always.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sterling Care Bethesda for their kindness, dignity, and compassionate care they provided to Fabio during his final years.
A memorial service celebrating Fabio’s life will be held on September 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Donald V. Borgwardt Funeral Home 4400 Powder Mill Rd., Beltsville, Maryland 20705.
Fabio will be deeply missed, but the love, laughter, and memories he shared with his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
