Jebaraj Joshua Devairakkam was born on September 30, 1959, in Kudikadu, Tamil Nadu, India, to his parents, Devairkkam Packinathan and Mariammal Devairakkam. He was one of seven siblings, three sisters and four brothers growing up in a close-knit family that shaped his strong sense of responsibility and resilience.
From an early age, Jebaraj was determined and valued education. He began his schooling at E.D. Thomas and went on to pursue a career in nursing, earning his diploma in Lowery Newswid, Andhra. His commitment to growth led him further north in India, where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This path was not just a profession; it was a calling rooted in service.
On December 30, 1987, Jebaraj married Esther Rani Jebaraj, Together, they build a life grounded in faith and perseverance. Their journey began in Surath, where they later welcomed their first daughter, Lydia, in 1989. In 1992, they relocated to Oman and welcomed their second daughter, Abigail, in 1994. In 1995, they moved to the United States, eventually settling in Virginia, where they continued building their life together.
Jebaraj was a man defined by his character. He was hardworking and deeply committed to his family. He spoke his mind unfiltered, a well-known trait of his. He was generous, always willing to give, whether it was his time, resources, or care. His sense of humor was unique, and those who knew him will remember his candid spirit.
At his core, Jebaraj's life was anchored in faith. He believed deeply in the power of prayer and placed his trust in God. He found purpose in serving others not only through his profession, but also through his involvement in charitable efforts, educational support, and ministry work. One powerful example of this was his service in 2005 as an OR nurse during earthquake relief efforts in Pakistan, a statement to his compassion and courage.
He found joy in life's simple and meaningful moments, listening to music, sharing meals, engaging in conversations, and spending time with those he loved. He enjoyed gardening, being in nature, going for walks, and staying connected with the world through politics and technology.
Jebaraj is survived by his wife of 38 years, Esther, his daughters, Lydia and Abigail; and his sons-in-law, Donnie and Jerry. He leaves behind not only a family who loved him deeply, but also a legacy defined by faith, strength, and generosity.
Today, as we remember Jebaraj Devairakkam, we not only mourn his passing-we honor a life of service, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the values he instilled, and the memories will remain with us always.
May his soul rest in peace as we look forward to the day we meet again.
