John Henry Jones
Sharing the sad news that our friend and neighbor, and the City’s “Ambassador,” John Henry Jones, passed away peacefully on June 11 at the age of 98, surrounded by his loving family, friends, and caregivers in his home on Ridge Road – exactly as he wished.
The Jones family has planned a public viewing Friday, June 19, from 4:30-6:00pm at the Borgwardt Funeral Home in Beltsville and a memorial service and celebration of John Henry’s life and legacy at Hope Lutheran Church in College Park on Saturday, June 20, at 2:00pm. The service will be live-streamed; RSVP to help the family with planning: bit.ly/JohnHenryGreenbelt
The family invites you to bring or send an indoor plant, outdoor plant, potted flower, herbs, or seed packet to share for Saturday’s memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations for a bench at Henry’s Hollow, the Greenbelt garden that he held so dear, and to establish a Greenbelt community memorial fund in his honor: gofundme.com/JohnHenryGreenbelt.
The News Review plans to share a longer article in the coming weeks to reflect upon John Henry’s life and legacy in the City of Greenbelt
