Paul Anthony Wathen, a man of unwavering faith, gentle strength, and profound devotion to his family, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, at the age of 93. Surrounded by the family he spent a lifetime nurturing; Paul returned home to the Lord in the same spirit of grace that defined his life.

A Legacy of Service and Faith

Born on February 6, 1933, in Leonardtown, MD, Paul’s journey began on the family farm as the youngest boy among seven children. The values of hard work and kinship he learned in those fields stayed with him forever. Paul went on to proudly serve his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Medical Specialist Corps, a role that reflected his lifelong calling to care for others.

As a cornerstone of the College Park community for decades, Paul’s life was an extension of his faith. A dedicated member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, he served with humility as a Eucharistic Minister. For Paul, outreach wasn't a duty—it was a joy. He was a pillar of the parish, finding his greatest fulfillment in helping others find their way to the Lord.

A Life Built on Love

Paul’s greatest accomplishment was his family. He shared 67 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Dorothy. He was the proud and loving father of Cathleen (Lawrence) Izzo, Michelle (Mark) Burchick, Stephen Wathen, and Robert Wathen. His legacy blossomed further through his 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, all of whom grew up under the wing of his quiet wisdom and kind heart. Paul is survived by his dear sister, Adrienne, and joins his parents, wife, and siblings who preceded him in rest.
