Paul David Williams

December 26, 1942 — July 28, 2023

Crofton, Maryland

Paul David Williams of Crofton, Maryland, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 at the age of 80 with his family by his side. Paul was born on December 26, 1942 to Fred and Viola Williams of Madison, WV. He had wonderful memories growing up in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia with his sister and brother, Flora and Ben. Paul developed his love of the outdoors, hunting, and bathing in the creek growing up in West Virginia. He left home at 16 to work in a nursery in Ohio. He loved gardening, we always had fresh vegetables and usually a fruit tree or two.

Paul joined the Navy as soon as he turned 17 and served 4 years on the U.S.S. Beale and made several Mediterranean tours during those years. He completed his high school education while in the Navy.

After serving in the Navy, Paul worked for the Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO) as a building engineer. He stayed there for 30 years, retiring in 2000. After retiring from PEPCO, he worked for the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He worked there for 5 years and retired in 2005 for the last time.

In 1966, after the Navy, Paul moved to Maryland where he met his future wife, Diane. Paul and Diane were married on June 12, 1970 and celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this year. His son Derrick was born in April of 1975. The years that followed Derrick's birth were full of fun, joy that children bring. Virginia Rosinsky was added to the family. Paul was a great Dad, not just for his own biological child, but for any child that came his way. When his shift allowed Saturday morning breakfasts were a neighborhood hit with trips to the dump in the back of his pickup.

In 2007, Paul and Diane moved to Pennsylvania where he worked on his golf game. In the last tournament he played, he and his golf partner won the tournament which he was really proud of. He developed many good friendships while he lived in Pennsylvania. Then came the grandkids: Alaina, Mack, and Lily. The pull of family tugged at him. Those three were hard to resist and in 2022, Paul and Diane moved back to Maryland. Paul is survived by Diane, Derrick (Tammie), Virginia (Alvin), Alaina, Mack, and Lily, and lots of nieces and nephews.

There will be a Memorial Service will be held at Grace Church in Lanham, Md. Monday, August 7, at 7:00pm, followed by a time of fellowship.
