Peter Thomas Inman (1947-2026)
Peter Inman passed away on October 16, 2026 in Adelphi, Maryland. He was a loving father, grandfather, and husband. He is preceded in death by his wife, Martina Darragh, and survived by his son, Jack, and his granddaughters, Alexandra and McKayla.
Pete was raised on Long Island before moving to Washington, D.C. to attend Georgetown University. After graduating from Georgetown, Pete focused primarily on writing. After marrying Tina and starting a family, he took a job at the Library of Congress in 1980. Upon joining the Library of Congress Pete became active in AFSCME Local 2910. Among other roles, Pete negotiated collective bargaining agreements and handled grievance hearings for Loal 2910. His work continued even after retiring from the Library of Congress, as he continued to represent the Union in contract negotiations.
Pete was also innovative poet whose works can be found in the Special Collections Research Center at The George Washington University. Written 1976-2013 (2014) serves as a comprehensive collection of his works. Other books include Ocker (1982), Think of one (1986), Red Shift (1988), criss cross (1994), at least (1999), amounts to (2000), Ad Finitum (2008), and Per Se (2012).
Pete was always willing to help a neighbor, a co-worker, a friend, or a stranger to the best of his abilities. He was not interested in what people could give him, but rather, what people could do collectively to better themselves and those around them. Pete’s remains will be put to rest next to his wife’s remains at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 100 Resurrection Rd., Coraopolis, PA 15108. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later time.
