Rene Alexander Monterrosa, affectionately known by those who loved him as Monte, Alex, or Nene, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, in Sacramento, California. He was surrounded by his devoted West Coast family following a courageous and dignified battle with pancreatic cancer.Born on November 16, 1979, in Washington, D.C., to Gloria Alicia and Rene Alfredo Monterrosa, Alex spent his formative years in the heart of the District. As a child, he was the embodiment of joy—adventurous, curious, and always the first to offer a helping hand. He naturally stepped into the role of the protective big brother to his sister and brother, a mantle he wore with pride and devotion for the rest of his life.A proud 1998 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Alex was a friend to everyone. His charm was so genuine that he even counted his teachers among his friends, often sharing a quiet morning coffee with them before class. He went on to study Graphic Design at Montgomery College, fueling a lifelong passion for drawing, art, and photography.Alex was a man of many trades, but his spirit was best defined by his thirst for adventure. Fifteen years ago, that spirit led him to California, the setting for the greatest chapter of his life. In Sacramento, he built a beautiful world alongside his loyal dogs, Sako and Charlie, and cultivated a community of friends who became a second family. Their unwavering love and support were his greatest comfort until the very end.

Dear family and friends, We invite you to join us in celebrating Alex’s beautiful life. He brought so much joy and light into the world, and we would love to honor that spirit by wearing colorful clothing. Rather than traditional black attire, we hope to reflect the happiness he shared with all of us.In this way, we can come together to remember him as he truly was—full of warmth, laughter, and love—and celebrate his life in a way that feels true to him-
