Sally Lovell Meyer (age 89) of Odenton, MD passed into everlasting peace with her loving Savior on Friday, May 7, 2021. Sally’s husband of 61 years, Russell Gordon Meyer, Sr. (Buz) preceded her in death as did her daughter, Penny Ann Meyer . She is survived by six children: Russell Gordon of Odenton MD, Sally Jane Hiller (Charles) of Bowie MD, Timothy Lee (Elizabeth) of Odenton MD, Daniel Edward of Radnor PA, Andrew James of Odenton MD, Sue Ellen Meyer of Odenton MD. She was proud of her 12 grandchildren: Sarah Wallace (Keith), Martha Spinosa (Mike), Amy Meyer, April Meyer, Timmy Adam Meyer, Matthew Meyer, Betsy Meyer, Christopher Whittington, Patrick Whittington (Karen), AJ Meyer, Jacob Meyer, and Dylan Meyer; and her 17 great grandchildren: Gavin, Brendan, Parker, Straton, Julien, Marvel, Jerry Lee, Cameron, Evan, Riley, Zayden, Kristin, JP, Katelyn, Mckenzie, Chase, and Benjamin. She was blessed with many nieces and nephews and scores of children for whom she was “teacher”. She was the 7th Lovell child in her family of 12 siblings: Arthur (d), Ellen Mabel (d), Marion (d), Betty (d), James (d), Charles (d), Iva Marie, Nancy, Margaret, Susan, and Thomas.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, now First Lutheran Church of Bowie where she served as Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir, and worked as secretary for the congregation. She was a member of the Arundel Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, secretary of Forks of Patuxent Community Organization, Retired Teachers of Anne Arundel County, Retired Teachers State of MD, Anne Arundel County Reading Council, and State of MD Reading Council. She is the author of “A Short Trip Through the Bealmear Estate, Owenwood Thicket, or Meyer’s Bottom.” She graduated of Reade Township High School of Mountaindale, PA in 1950 as Valedictorian, and moved to Washington, DC to work in the Navy Department, then moved to Odenton to live on the Meyer family farm. After working as an instructional aide for the AA County Public Schools, she enrolled in Bowie State University, graduated and went to work as an elementary teacher, then reading specialist, and teacher in charge of the Volunteer Program. She finished 25 years of service as Coordinator of Kindergarten and Early Children Department for the Anne Arundel County Board of Education. But more than all this is Sally was a woman who loved her Lord and shared this love in her words and actions. For her life’s witness, we give God all glory.
