Sandra "Sandy" Lynn Whitley

Sandra “Sandy” Lynn Whitley passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Casey House (Montgomery Hospice) in Rockville, Maryland. A lifelong resident of Silver Spring, Sandy will be remembered for her artistry, strong work ethic, independent spirit, entrepreneurship, and many passions—including reading, horseback riding, flying, gardening, and spending time with her beloved dog, Zach.

Sandy was born on November 17, 1957, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Willard “Fritz” Whitley Jr. and Ethelene “Effie” (Butts) Whitley.

She is survived by her sister, Susan Whitley Dougherty, and her husband, Kevin, of Raleigh, NC; her nephew and nieces, Michael Kevin Dougherty and his wife, Jennie, of Durham, NC; Katelyn Dougherty Daniel and her husband, Jude, of London, UK; Kelsey Dougherty Plummer and her husband, Jared, of Raleigh, NC; great-nephews and great-nieces, Matthias and Eliana Daniel, London, UK; Jonah and Leah Plummer, Raleigh, NC; Celeste and Blythe Dougherty, Durham, NC.
