Veda A Costlow

Veda Arlene Costlow, 95, of Beltsville, MD, went home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2026, surrounded by family. Though her health declined in recent years, Veda remained strong and steadfast until the end.

Veda was born on February 2, 1931, to Clifford and Geraldine Eppley in Johnstown, PA. When she was just seven years old, Lawrence Costlow laid eyes on the girl who would one day become his bride. They married in 1949, welcomed two children, and shared nearly 75 years of a loving marriage. Through every joy and challenge, they faced life hand‑in‑hand.

Early in her life, Veda served as the church pianist at Locus Grove Church in Johnstown and often accompanied Lawrence when he sang at weddings. In 1963, Veda and Lawrence moved to Maryland, where she worked in the admissions office at the University of Maryland and later in the front office at Buck Lodge Middle School. They became members of Forcey Bible Church in Silver Spring, where Veda sang in the choir with Lawrence and helped with Vacation Bible School. Together, they also sang with the National Christian Choir. Veda and Lawrence delighted in hosting visiting missionaries in their home, grateful for the opportunity to serve the Lord through hospitality.

Veda cherished time with her grandchildren and great‑grandchildren. Hearing about their adventures always brought a bright smile to her face, and she was deeply proud of each one.

Throughout her life, Veda was known for her generous spirit and her willingness to lend a helping hand. Above all, her faith in Jesus was the foundation of her life. Even in her final days, prayer and Scripture gave her strength and hope.

Veda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence, and her son, Dean. She is survived by her daughter, Arlene (David) Frostbutter; her daughter‑in‑law, Nora Costlow; five grandchildren; and eight great‑grandchildren.

At Arlene’s request, a private interment will take place at Maryland National Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held for family and friends to honor Veda’s life and legacy on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the Gracism Chapel at Bridgeway Community Church.
