Ward William Grove Sr., fondly known as Bill, age 96, of Laurel, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, one day after celebrating his birthday.

Bill was the beloved husband of Betty Ann Grove, with whom he shared 75 wonderful years of marriage after marrying on March 31, 1951, just six weeks after meeting the love of his life.

He was the devoted father of Billy (Theresa), Guy, John (Kris), Allan (Sherry), Linda (Paul), and Renee (Tom). He was also the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his sisters, Sara McKeown and Gem Jenkins, along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Bill faced a challenging childhood, moving from place to place. He attended trade school in the District of Columbia and began a long and dedicated career at the U.S. Soldier’s and Airmen’s Home, where he worked for 30 years and retired in 1981 as Superintendent of the Sheet Metal Department. A hardworking provider, Bill spent much of his life working two jobs to support his family. His strong work ethic continued, with R.D. Bean, Inc from 1974-2020.

Bill had a lifelong passion for antique cars, motorcycles, steam engines, and tractors. Many weekends were spent working on them with his sons and the Romero family, creating memories that will be cherished forever. He especially enjoyed attending car shows, tractor shows, and steam engine exhibits.

Known for his generous spirit and willingness to help others, Bill played a role in building or renovating many of his children’s homes and often gathered friends with various trade skills to lend a hand. He had a gift for making friends everywhere he went and touched countless lives with his kindness, humor, and hard work.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
