Wendell Howard Smith departed this life on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. He was born on December 24, 1952, in Washington, DC. He was the third child born to the late Alfred R. Smith and Majora B. Smith.

Wendell was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools. Wendell continued to further his education at Washington Technical Institute now University of the District of Columbia and Strayer Business College. Wendell enlisted in the United States Air Force receiving training as a Communications Specialist. He received an honorable discharge in the early 1970s.

Wendell met and married the love of his life, Jacqueline D. Huntley in 1970. They were married October 26, 1973. Wendell and his beloved Jackie had two sons, Andre` and Damon Smith. Andre` preceded Wendell in death on December 20, 2021.

Wendell worked for the C&P telephone Company for several years, before joining the General Services Administration (GSA), receiving training as an Electrician. He provided over 31 years of dedicated and outstanding service to GSA. He retired in 2017 as a Buildings Manager.

Wendell cherished his family and friends, gaining many lasting friendships. Wendell was a warm, charismatic and caring person. He was a huge influence in so many lives. Wendell will always have a special place in our hearts and he will always be with us.

Wendell would not want us to grieve, because he spent special time with each and every one of us. While you were with Wendell, he made you feel you were the most important friendship he had.

Wendell found great joy in entertaining and frequent phone calls to and from his family and friends. Wendell loved all Thunderbird cars no matter the year. Wendell loved watching old westerns, fishing and playing cards. He was an avid Bid Whist player, often bidding before picking up his hand. Then proceeding to make his bid. He loved listening to all types of music. Phyllis Hyman was one of his favorite singers.

Wendell was preceded in death by his son, Andre` H. Smith, his parents, his sisters, Carmen Smith, and Giovanna Gregory.

Wendell leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Jacqueline, son Damon; brother Warrick (Ricky, wife Pinky); sister Tanya; grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.
