Barbara L. Simmons passed away on July 6 at Oak View Manor Nursing Home in Burtonsville, Maryland.
Born in Panama on April 13, 1938, Barbara was the youngest of the three children of William King Simmons and Thelma Jackson Simmons.
She graduated from Dundalk High School in Baltimore, Maryland and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from what is now known as the Maryland Institute College of Art. Barbara taught art for a number of years in public school systems in the Baltimore area before she established her cat breeding and showing business. She was an avid gardener and, later in life, enjoyed winning trivia games at Oak Manor.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Annette Simmons Melcher of Washington, DC and her brother William King Simmons, Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama, her nieces Michelle Knight and Laurette Dearden, her nephews Mark Melcher, Gregory Melcher, Glenn Melcher, William Simmons, Bradley Simmons, Barry Simmons and Brian Simmons, and numerous grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.
