David LeRoy Frederick, Sr.

David Frederick, Sr. Obituary

Retired Chief Warrant Officer, CW03, of the United States Navy, served on several aircraft carriers and in duty stations in the United States, the Philippines, and Scotland, in the profession of photography, died December 3, 2021 of natural causes at Hillhaven Nursing and Rehabilitation in Adelphi, MD. He was 86.

He was born in West Reading, PA in 1935, the son of the late LeRoy Frederick and the former Helen Rotz. He graduated from reading Senior High School in 1954 and joined the Navy.

While in the Navy he performed in all facets of photography on land, in the air, as a Scuba Diver and as a Photographic Division Officer in numerous ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. His military awards included the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, two Good Conduct Medals and the Battle Efficiency Award.

He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving over 22 years in March of 1976, obtained a Master's Degree in Special Education and taught for eight years at the School for Contemporary Education. In later years, he enjoyed volunteering in numerous positions for the Naval Relief Society and the Prince George's County Genealogical Society.

He is survived by his wife, Inez Claire McDermott, a retired Production Supervisor. He is also survived by his two children; David L. Frederick, Jr. of Glen Burnie, MD and Susan Kearney of Myrtle Beach, SC; three step-children; Charles (Mike) McDermott of Damascus, MD, Kathleen Doyle of Gambrills, MD and Donna Sulewski of Ludington, MI. He is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 

Interment will be Arlington National Cemetery at a later date to be determined.
