Dr. Joseph Mathew

Dr. Joseph Mathew (Benny) was born on 8th November 1956 in Cheppaud, Kerala. His father's name was Daniel Mathew and mother was Chinnamma Mathew. His siblings were Daniel, Molly and Anna (Anila). His family name is Karimpanackal. His father worked in Pune. So he was educated in Pune, Maharashtra, India. From the time he started his education he topped his class.

After Passing his XI Standard, he joined Nowrosjee Wadia College, Pune in Science Stream. In his board exams he stood sixth in the Pune University exams.

Simultaneously he appeared for IIT Entrance Exams, for which he qualified and secured admission for Electrical Engineering - B.Tech degree at IIT, Kharagpur. W.Bengal.

He also appeared for National Scholarship Exam, for which he was successful and secured the National Scholarship which helped him during his four years at IIT. He passed out from
IIT, Kharagpur in the year 1979.

He started applying to US Universities and secured admission at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York for PhD programme on full scholarship. While studying he got assistantship and secured ‘A’ grade in all his exams.

He started working at Naval Research Center.

Later he took the Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from University of Maryland University College and was on the Dean’s List while attending. After graduating, he worked as a computer programmer and the like for both the government and private contractors.

He was a humble person who never harmed a soul. He was calm-tempered, conscientious, and deeply religious, with no vices. He had an appreciation for classical music and often traveled with family to prominent national parks nationwide. He was an avid life-long learner. He was the shining star in his family. He is survived by his wife Liza and his children
Christine and Christopher. May his soul rest in peace in the arms of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
