Edith Mountjoy Obituary

Beltsville -- It is with a heavy heart that the family of Edith Cecelia Mountjoy announces
her passing on Friday, March 4, 2022.

Edith was born on June 21, 1921, to John Willams and Nora B. (Juday) Ringwald in Hyattsville, Maryland.  She graduated from Hyattsville High School in 1939. She married Robert E.  Mountjoy on May 15, 1942.  Between raising her five children along with neighborhood children, Edith worked part time as a claims/parts adjuster at various GM automobile dealers. After that she worked part time at a doctor’s office as an assistant for many years.

Edith loved her family, her church, and her community. She volunteered every week putting together meals for Meals on Wheels. She also loved sewing and needlework. She loved making afghans for her grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren. She especially loved gardening. Her yard showed her dedication to gardening with multiple beds of azaleas, roses, and all kinds of flowers. Her vegetable garden produced enough to share with family and friends. Last June, Edith celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends totaling over 50
people. Those celebrating ranged from her great-great grandchildren to her son and daughter – five generations of family. Multiple friends also came by to celebrate.

Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Edward Mountjoy; her sons, Donald Charles Mountjoy (Betty) and Wayne Edward Mountjoy; her daughter Eileen Carol McElroy (Donald); She is survived by her son Walter Richard Mountjoy, daughter, Kathleen Ann Willet (Pete); grandchildren Lisa Scotten, Douglas Willet, Travis Willet, Curtis McElroy (Carie) and Kevin McElroy (Shelly); great grandchildren Bill Ogilvie (Savahanna), Jeremy Ogilvie (Samantha), Travis(TJ),  Addison, Alexis, Aria, Anislie, and Wyatt and great-great grandchildren, Tucker, Colton, and Raleigh.
