Elizabeth Barclay Hubley, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and cherished member of her community, passed away on November 9th, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, compassion, and a profound love for life.
Born to Reverend Thomas Pinkney Carriger and Ethel Irene Dicks on February 19, 1943, Elizabeth spent her formative years in Tennessee. Driven by a thirst for knowledge and adventure, she ventured to Maryland, where she pursued her passion for teaching, sailing, and exploring the world.
Elizabeth's zest for life was infectious, reflected in her love for sailing on vast waters and her insatiable curiosity for diverse cultures and experiences. Her dedication to education was unwavering, touching the lives of many students, imparting knowledge, and inspiring countless young minds.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas Carriger. Elizabeth leaves behind a loving legacy in her nieces, Jessica (Joey) and Sarah (Matt), her nephew, Stephen, and their families. She also leaves behind cousins John and William, and their families, along with a wide circle of friends and admirers.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Humane Educational Society in memory of Elizabeth's lifelong commitment to education and her love of animals.
A tribute to Elizabeth's life will be held at Donald V. Borgwardt Funeral Home on Saturday, December 16th, 2023 from 2 p.m. to 5 pm.. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and honor the incredible person she was. Elizabeth's internment will be a private family event in Chattanooga, TN.
May she rest in peace, sailing into eternity on the winds of cherished memories.
