September 19, 1955 ~ March 12, 2020 (age 64)

Obituary

Joseph "Jo Jo" Martin Lasick died unexpectedly in his sleep on March 12th in Laurel, MD at the age of 64.

Joseph is survived by his wife Dorothy “Dottie”, son Joseph “Nick”, mother Barbara, and sister Kathie. He is preceded in death by father Joseph “Sonny” and brother Michael.

He married Dorothy “Dottie” in 2003 and embraced her two children Kimberly and Heather along with four grandchildren, Taylor, Tyler, Travis, and Colton.

Joseph was born in Augusta, Georgia, on September 19, 1955, to Joseph and Barbara. He graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School in 1973, where he proudly wore football jersey #68 and built friendships that lasted a lifetime. He also attended Montgomery Community College. He married his first wife Marie, and had his son, Joseph Nicholas, with whom he shared his passion for diving, motorcycles, and trucks.

Jo Jo moved to Ladysmith, Virginia, where he began his diving career. He was a certified rescue diver and attained the title, “Dive Master”. He relocated to Florida and started the Nassau County Dive Team. He often made the news as a rescue diver for local rescue groups.

His motivation for service was rooted in his deep faith. This same faith sustained him through life and prompted his generosity.

He returned to Maryland to manage the family business, Lasick’s Beef and Seafood. It was here  he met Dottie. They worked together to build his family’s business, and their future. At the restaurant, he hosted community groups and built relationships with other business owners, politicians, and law enforcement.  He had a fondness for Special Olympics demonstrated by hosting events and participating in the Polar Bear Plunge.
