Penny Ann Meyer

Penny Ann Meyer, born June 15, 1955 died at home on November 1, 2020. She is survived by her children: Christopher M Whittington (Cindy) of Montross VA and Patrick W Whittington (Karen) of Odenton MD. Five wonderful children called her “Granny”: JP, Katelyn, Makenzie, Benjamin, and Chase. They brought her great joy. She is also survived by six brothers and sisters: Russell Gordon, Jr. (Odenton), Sally Jane Hiller (Bowie), Timothy Lee (Odenton), Daniel Edward (Radnor PA), Andrew James (Odenton), and Sue Ellen (Odenton). She is survived by her mother, Sally Lovell Meyer of Odenton and is preceded in death by her father, Russell Gordon, Sr. She is loved by a host of nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

Penny graduated from Arundel Senior High School (Odenton) in 1972 and attended Bowie State College where she studied accounting. She was a bookkeeper for more than 40 years.

Penny lived a quiet behind-the-scenes life. She was treasurer for First Lutheran Church of Bowie for over 20 years and during these past 10 years was the head cook for events at the congregation. She will be forever remembered for her cookies, pies, jams, and deviled eggs. She passed on the joys of baking and cooking to those who followed her. More than that, she passed on a quiet faith in Jesus Christ who was her comfort and strength.
