Richard Posey Obituary

Richard Mack Posey, aged 92, died on Saturday, January 8, 2022 in Rome, Georgia, at the Winthrop Senior Assisted Living Center. He was born and lived in Ashland, Kentucky where he excelled in school during his early years, being promoted two years above grade level. He lost his father at the age of seven and lived with his grandparents thereafter. As a teenager he relocated to Washington D.C. after his widowed mother began working for the government. He ultimately graduated from Eastern High School in Washington D.C. A few years afterwards he married Eileen E. Jennings, and settled in the Maryland suburbs.

He pursued a career in Civil Engineering with Airways Engineering Corporation, beginning as a draftsman, and moving on to design airports all over the world. His career led him to visit six continents and live in South America (Chile and Peru), Asia (Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey), as well as Haiti in North America. He also designed many airports domestically. After leaving Airways, he worked as a consultant for various companies lending his expertise and skill accumulated over almost 50 years. Upon his retirement, he moved to Valdosta, Georgia, then Westminster, Maryland, and finally Rockmart, Georgia.

While Mr. Posey had an amazing and successful career; caring for his family was always his priority. He was a father of four children by the age of thirty-one, and he always worked hard to provide them with what they needed to be successful. He made sure that his children were raised as children of God, ensuring that they got to church and Sunday School each week. He also cared for his mother and sister whenever they needed him to lend a hand. He loved motorcycles and cars. He also was a talented bowler. He also enjoyed carpentry and leatherwork. He was extremely generous to charities; especially when his children or grandchildren asked him to donate.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; his son Malcolm; his sister, Mary Josephine: and his parents Raymond and Edna Mae. He is survived by three of his four children and their spouses: Estella and David Churchman, Brenda Posey (spouse of Malcolm), Charles and Gail Posey, and Donna and Donald Albrecht. He also leaves eleven grandchildren and their spouses: Nicole and Michael Miller, Adrienne Sank, Anna Churchman, Benjamin Posey, Jonah Posey, Julian Posey, Henry Posey, Peter McFiren, Vicki and Josh Lackey, Jessica Albrecht and Ivan Stutzman, and Justin and Allison Albrecht. He continues his legacy through ten great grandchildren: Erica, Michael, Daniel, Stephen, Amanda, Richard, Andrew, Christopher, Channing, and Collins; as well as two great, great grandchildren Serenity and Ashdon.
