Robert Green Obituary

Robert “Bob” Lee Green was born April 1, 1940, in Baxter, Arkansas to the late Robert Allen and Rosa Lee Green. He departed this life at the age of 81 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD on October 2, 2021.

Bob grew up in Dermott, AR a few miles down the road from Baxter. He helped his father on the farm where they raised cotton. By the age of 10, he already knew how to drive a tractor and a truck. By the age of 16, he got his driver’s license and one day later he was pulled over by the police. He was legal. So many years of driving home to get lunch for his father. Bob graduated Chicot County High School, moved to Washington, D.C. to attend Howard University to study Engineering; and, during his sophomore year transferred to Southeastern University in Washington, D.C.

Bob’s professional career began at the United Book Exchange, a non-profit, that supplied books and journals to the libraries in the US and around the world. In 1966, Bob joined International Business Machines (IBM) where he began his 31-year career of service: first as a Computer Services Engineer, then a Specialist in the Education and Administration Division. Bob was known as someone who worked well under pressure, who got the work done, and who worked well with others.

Bob retired from IBM in 1997 and used his time travelling and serving his church family. For 20-years, he served as Church Treasurer and for several years as a Trustee. On September 29, 2021, Bob informed Pastor Nathaniel that effective October 1 he would no longer serve as Trustee because of his health and to everyone’s surprise, our Lord and Savior called Bob home the very next day.

Bob loved his family and did everything possible to ensure that his daughters could be independent and successful. For the last 10 years, Bob became heavily involved in his grandson’s life. While being the giver and adviser, his goal was to help shape his grandson’s spiritual life to be much like his.

Bob leaves to cherish his memory, his wife and best friend Lillian Green, his daughter Linda Green, his grandson Julian Jackson, his step-grandchildren David, Christopher, and Crystal Jackson; three sisters Helen (Hank) Hodges of Pomona, California; Minnie Green of Little Rock, Arkansas; Gwendolyn (JT) Stephenson of Dermott, Arkansas; two sister-in-law Ruby H. Greene of Bronx, New York; Marguerite Hicks of Washington, District of Columbia and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
