Tom M. Berg

Thomas Mathew Berg, aged 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 14, 2022 at his home in Riverdale, MD.  He was born on August 25, 1939 in Washington, DC.  He is survived by his children, Martha, Steven, Matthew, and Alice.  He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  Tom had five siblings, Mary, Barbara, John, James, and Robert.

Tom was born to Mary Alice Crown and Elvery Matthew Berg and grew up in Silver Spring, MD.  He married Margaret Lee McConnaughy in February 1962 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Clarksburg, MD.

Tom was a fun-loving man who enjoyed amusement parks, trains, and the beach.  He was always joking around.  This is how he charmed the old and the young alike; he was loved by many.  Tom was interested in history and read every plaque, marker, and information sign at museums and historical locations as his family had the patience for; they sometimes had to drag him along or he would be there for days if he were allowed.  His mechanical talents led to a job as a petroleum contractor for O.H. Lettmann and James G. Walters.  Occasionally, he would take one of his kids to a jobsite when he was on-call/working a Saturday shift.  He was the family’s live-in repair man; Tom could fix almost anything.  He will be missed by many.
