I just found out yesterday from Mr. Geo (George Kochell). I am at a loss for words. Barbara has done so much for the Greenbelt community, and surrounding areas. She was the heart and soul of anything that had to do with the Arts. She truly loved and enjoyed working with children and continually inspired everyone to love the arts. Tiahna and I will truly miss her face, and her bountiful laugh. My sincere condolences to Mr. Simon and the family. With our love, always.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
I will always remember Barbara's smile. She was kind and full of a quiet joy. Barbara treated me with respect, even when I was a small child. She was thoughtful and knew the right things to say. The ways that she carried herself in life, her fearless authenticity, will continue to influence me in mine.
Lots of love to you, Julia, Nora, and Tom

Barbara had a generous and beautiful spirit promoting her love of art to all ages in Greenbelt. She was always so supportive of my grandkids in their art classes and encouraged me over the years also in my water color pursuits. I always looked forward to the Labor Day Art Show when Barbara would exclaim over my latest painting. Her untimely passing leaves a huge void in Greenbelt. Our deepest sympathy all all her family.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family, Tom. I met Barbara at a County Council hearing when we were pushing for the Accokeek Branch Library and she came to support us. Later, when you became Accokeek Branch Manager, it was a pleasure to see Barbara at many programs sponsored by Friends of the Accokeek Library, and when you both came (trekking from Greenbelt!) to support our Book & Bake Sale for years afterward. Barbara was an avid advocate for county libraries. The Friends of Prince George's Libraries that she co-founded years ago continues that advocacy today. I will always remember her sense of hope and sense of humor and her smile.

My memory of Barbara goes back to classes at High Point. I remember sitting behind her long red tresses and sharing many laughs with her. We lost touch after graduation, but in my sorrow of her loss, I am inspired by the wonderful tributes by those who knew her for so many years.

She will be very much missed! One of my favorite memories of Barbara: she attended a Utopia Film Festival Screening of the film about Greenbelt and she told us so much about the city and the times that it really enhanced the film. There will never be another Barbara Simon. A truly unique person - my thoughts are with you.

My condolences to Barbara's family. I was so sad and shocked to hear of her passing. She was a good friend, and a great woman. I first met her when I began working for the Greenbelt Community Center in the early nineties. She played a significant role in assisting me in drawing out my daughter's artistic abilities. I am forever grateful. She was warm, caring, and never judgmental. She gave everyone the same courtesy and respect, not swayed by race, class, religion or gender - which is the Greenbelt way! She was a great great representative of a great city. R.I.P. Barbara. Job well done!

So sorry for your loss.

Barbara was such an amazing woman.

She worked so hard and gave so much. And she also had so much practical sense in doing the work of helping others.

And she was always spending special attention to young people, our next generation.

She leaves a hole that just can't be filled.

She will be sorely missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. Barbara had a very significant impact on my life and the life of children, especially my artistic daughter Maddy. We so enjoyed the children's art show during Labor Day Weekends, watching how the budding artists improved each year and then even moving on to the adult shows. She was always very encouraging. I had the pleasure of working with her in her efforts to get support from the Prince George's County school board, the PTA and Greenbelt Elementary School (back in the mid '90's) to get funding and support for installing a kiln at the school and having ceramic classes for the kids. Every community should be so lucky to have a Barbara Simon!
I regret that I will be away on the 16th, but will be there in spirit.
