Kent Bishop Obituary

Kent Eugene Bishop, 74, of Carmichaels, PA, passed away on December 17, 2018, while on a cruise with his wife Sandy.  He was born on October 27, 1944, in Waynesburg, PA, to the late John Darrell Bishop and Gladys (Liston) Bishop.  In 1966, after graduating from Penn State, Kent moved to Maryland with his first wife Sheila Berger.  That union was blessed with two daughters Kim and Kara.  Kent began his career as a naval ship signature analyst and computer engineer at the Naval Ordinance Laboratory in White Oak, MD.  During his career at NOL, he was drafted during the Vietnam War era and served as a Captain in the Army at the Pentagon for one year.  He returned to NOL where he developed unique magnetic signature analysis tools for surface ships and submarines.  In 2003, he finished his government career at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Carderock, MD.  Until his retirement in 2008, he worked for EG&G as a consultant for the Navy.  Over his career, he formed many lasting friendships with his engineering buddies.  For fun, Kent enjoyed a variety of pastimes, including softball, volleyball, and tennis.  While playing tennis one day, he met his second wife Sandy Kennedy.  From this union, his family was extended to include two step daughters Barb and Tracy.

During a much-deserved retirement, he resided in Glen Rock, PA, and gave his time and energy to helping those less fortunate at the Computer Ministry in Harrisburg and Asbury United Methodist Church in York.  He also gained energy by regularly attending his daughters’ and grandchildren’s sporting activities.  In addition to traveling with his wife, he enjoyed yearly summer vacations with his family in the Outer Banks, eating crabs and fishing on the pier.  Kent was repeatedly drawn to the story-telling adventures of hunting and fishing with his long-time friends and grandson.  Family time was often spent playing games, completing puzzles, and watching movies.  Kent lived a life full of blessings, was loved by many, and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife Sandra Cutchins Kennedy; two daughters Kimberly Ann (Bishop) Gibbs and Kara Marie (Bishop) Morton; two step daughters Barbara Michelle Hanbury and Tracy Lynn Williams; five grandchildren James Edward Gibbs IV, Matthew John Gibbs, Mia Rose Gibbs, Meghan Lynn Williams, and Michael Ryan Williams; a niece Sondra Ann (Bishop) Edwards; two nephews John Michael Bishop and David Jason Bishop; and several cousins.  Deceased are a brother Melvin M. Bishop and his wife Anne Bishop.
