Richard Wayne Perkins, beloved partner, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 2 nd 2025. Born in Washington, DC, to John (Jack) Perkins and Allayne (Laynie) Sykes, Richard grew up in Bladensburg, Maryland, from the age of 11.
A proud graduate of Bladensburg High School in 1964, he went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1968 as a crew chief mechanic on B-52s, demonstrating his dedication and skill. After his military service, Richard worked as an electrician in his younger years before becoming a partner with EMS, where he specialized in pumps and boilers.
Richard was a big kid at heart, always smiling and laughing, bringing joy to those around him. His passions included golf, wine, dancing, sports, animals, and watching the Food Network. As a member of the DC Hand Dance Club, he was celebrated for his love of dance and his infectious enthusiasm on the dance floor.
He leaves behind his daughter, Cara Lounsbury, and her husband, Jack; his cherished grandchildren, Kelsey and Mason Lounsbury; his sister, Lea Kurtz, her husband, George, and their families; and a wide circle of friends who will forever remember his warmth and zest for life.
Richard is survived by his devoted partner of 25 years, Peggy Morgan, and her children, Rob Morgan, Amanda Ludholtz, and their families. Richard’s legacy of laughter, love, and connection will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held August 11 th from 11-1 at Borgwardt Funeral Home 4400 Powder Mill Rd Beltsville, MD 20705. Following the celebration of life, Richard will be laid to rest at Ivy Hill Cemetery 1201 Sandy Spring Rd, Laurel, MD 20707.
