Marie P. Berard

Marie P. Berard of Beltsville, MD passed away on Thursday March 28, 2024, at the age of 93. Marie was born in Washington, DC the daughter of Nunzio and Angeline Pettinato. Brought up on the Hill with her older brother George, Marie went to Holy Name Grade School and St. Cecilia's High School. After High School she worked for the Veteran's Department. She was introduced to her future husband, George W. Berard, Jr., by friends and they married in 1952. Marie is survived by her four children Dr. Michael (Pat) Berard, James (Janet) Berard, Esq., Robert Berard and Jean Berard, as well as 15 Grandchildren and 18 Great-Grandchildren. Once her kids arrived Marie worked as a housewife and Mom. Once her children were older, she returned to work at the Catholic University of America where she worked for many years as a Payroll Clerk. She then worked at the Catholic Biblical Association until she retired. Once retired Marie and George did some traveling, became involved in Senior Groups and played bridge. Marie was devoted to her family and enjoyed all new members as the family continued (and continues) to grow. Among her many interests she wanted to make sure to give back. She spent a number of years making food to send to So Others Might Eat and every Christmas made sure to create Shoe Box Gifts that SOME delivers to their clients. She was also passionate about supporting the Little Sisters of the Poor. That did include a few of her other passions - shopping and saving money. Every October, November and December Marie would spend her weekends attending Christmas Bazaars and scoping out bargains. Additionally, Marie supported charities that supported children, such as Save the Children and St. Jude's Children Hospital, in honor of her many Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. The wake will be held prior to the Funeral Mass on Thursday April 11, 2024, at Noon. The Funeral Mass will follow the wake at 1 pm on Thursday April 11, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11007 Montgomery Ave., Beltsville, MD 20705. Following the Funeral Mass a reception will be held at the Knights of Columbus Council 2809, 9450 Cherry Hill Rds., College Park, MD 20740.
